Rising dramatically from the Kalahari scrub bush, the magnetic power of Tsodilo Hills captivates and mystifies. There is undeniable spiritualism about the Hills that immediately strikes any visitor. Tsodilo is a sacred, mystical place where the ancestral spirits of the San, the original inhabitants, who occupied the hills for the past 200 years, dwell. Their ancestors performed rituals here to ask for assistance and rain. They also put paintings on the rock face, the meaning and symbolism of which remain a mystery to this today.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, Tsodilo Hills also includes a museum.
One of the wildest and most remote destinations in Botswana, Gcwihaba hides a labyrinth of underground caverns and passages. Visitors will find stalagmite, stalactite and flowstone formations.
The main cavern is called 'Drotsky's Cavern,' named after the Ghanzi farmer Martinus Drotsky, the first European to be shown the caves by the!Kung San in 1934. Gcwihaba is a designated National Monument and a proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Part of the great Makgadikgadi complex, Nxai Pan National Park, covers 2,100 sq. km, comprising several larger pans – Nxai Pan, Kgama-Kgama Pan and Kudiakam Pan, which were once ancient salt lakes.
These larger pans are now grassed and scattered with islands of acacia trees. The smaller pans fill with water during the rainy season attracting rich wildlife.
Wildlife viewing is seasonal and dependent on the rains and animal migration. December to April is the best time to visit if rains are good. However, several artificial watering points supplement natural features and attract some wildlife.
This safari will take us on to the Okvango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve through Savuti to Chobe and ending in Kasane.
Chobe - Kasane overlooks an area where four countries meet. Whether arriving by air or road, the first glimpse of the Chobe River is always breath-taking. It appears as a swathe of bright, blue ribbon, winding its way through the tiny town of Kasane and out into the Chobe National Park's wilderness. One of Africa's most beautiful rivers, the Chobe, supports a diversity and concentration of wildlife unmatched in Botswana.
Take a late afternoon Chobe sunset cruise and experience another side of the Chobe, witness large crocodiles sunbathing on the banks, water monitor lizards, like ancient dinosaurs patrol the bank looking for a quick meal. Watch the hi banks turn into a myriad of color as the bee eaters fly in and out of their nests preparing, feeding and courting. Be awed by hundreds of elephants come down to drink, communicating in their ancient silent language offering the traveller unique photo opportunities and lifetime memories that remain etched in the back of your mind.
